Peeta

Manuel di Rita, under the pseudonym of Peeta was born in the province of Venice in 1980. The anamorphosis of reality combined with the deception of human perception define Peeta’s work, one of the most internationally known Italian street artists. The artist’s compositions, which range from murals, to pictorial to sculptural, redefine three-dimensional geometric spaces and volumes, creating the illusion of a new reality in a continuous dialogue with the surrounding space.

The artist’s career began as a graffiti writer, then he developed his own personal language using the 3D technique becoming a multidisciplinary artist. At the end of the nineties, Peeta approached the German three-dimensional lettering scene. His research continued with his artistic studies on sculpture; he started investigating the development of the different forms and the light effects on surfaces.

Following on from this initial starting point, which was essential to establish a direct relationship with three-dimensionality, Peeta’s research focused on the design planning in order to acquire new notions that could be transferred to the reproduction of illusory volumes and forms. His works went beyond the boundaries of surfaces, transforming and distorting the reality they inhabit.

The artist’s desire is to create a game of prospective deception and contiguity between the work and the surrounding architectural and cultural space, here the anamorphism becomes the main obsession. A perfect fusion of colors and volumes create a new three-dimensional reality, which appears totally fictitious to human perception. The work is an integral part of the context in which it is located and at the same time it comes to life independently, in a perfect synergy of rhythm and fluidity.

If at the beginning of his career, his works expressed the plastic qualities of letters in particular of those part of his pseudonym, today the compositional balance of his productions, determines a suspension from normality with the consequent alteration of the everyday context. The result is a new conception of reality that reveals the illusory nature of the human perception and the distorted understanding of different points of view.

Peeta’s artistic activity ranges from large murals on buildings, to canvases and sculptural compositions. These are created with different materials including PVC, resin, fiberglass and bronze. The technical work perfection hides a profound spiritual dimension, an intimate self-portrait of the artist who invites us to observe from another point of view.

Peeta has participated in sector exhibitions and festivals in Italy and internationally and in public urban redevelopment projects. His works can be seen in Italy, Lisbon, Australia, Colorado, Florida, Holland, Poland, China, Spain, United States, Canada. He is part of the EAD crew of Padua, the FX crew and the RWK crew, both from New York.
