César Baldaccini, better known by the name of César, was born in Marseille in 1921. French born from Italian parents, he was the first artist to integrate waste elements in his artistic work. From a very young age he showed a marked predisposition to manual skills which he put into practice in the realization of wheelbarrows using tin cans. He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Marseille and in 1943, the one in Paris where he came into contact with the work of Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst and Alberto Giacometti, artists who would remain his reference points for the future.
